The wider storm

On the afternoon of the 30th, a dryline moved back into the Rolling Plains of West Texas allowing for low level moisture to surge into the region. Areas on the caprock saw scattered high based showers and thunderstorms generating severe wind gusts over Lubbock and Floyd Counties. Stronger moisture in the extreme southeastern Texas Panhandle allowed for more robust thunderstorms. These storms produced severe wind gusts as well as hail as large as golf ball size in the city of Memphis (Hall County).
