The wider storm
The first of April saw the third consecutive day of severe thunderstorms across the region. An upper level storm system moving out of the Rockies into the Central Plains brought moisture and lift over West Texas creating widespread rain showers and thunderstorms. Surface conditions across the caprock were relatively dry which led to numerous virga showers that brought severe wind gusts. Once this activity reached better moisture off the caprock, the showers developed into severe thunderstorms producing severe wind gusts.
