What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

An NWS storm survey team confirmed an EF-0 with peak winds of 85 mph touched down on the southern side of Thibodaux at 12:45am on February 15th. An trailer RV was partially flipped off of Talbot Ave as the tornado moved to the east-southeast. The tornado then reach peak strength as it impacted Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. Here, the tornado lifted a significant portion of the roof of the church, displacing it to the east. The wood framing of the roofing had evidence of rotting, so the lower bound for that damage was used in this case. The tornado slightly weakened as it moved east-southeast where minimal damage was found until it reached Percy Brown Rd where multiple large branches were snapped along it. The tornado remained very weak as it continued to the east-southeast where the next notable damage came on Crossing North St where a backyard awning was uplifted. As the tornado moved to the east-northeast, vegetation damage was noted on high-resolution imagery north of Rousseau where the tornado appeared to have lifted though additional analysis will be needed to determine the end point over inaccessible areas.

The wider storm

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms developed during the evening of February 14, 2026, ahead of a cold front and moved eastward across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi overnight, maintaining organization as a QLCS with embedded circulations. The environment featured a moist and unstable airmass with increasing low-level shear, supporting the development of multiple brief tornadoes and widespread damaging winds. The first impacts occurred across southwest Mississippi late in the evening where several EF-1 tornadoes caused numerous snapped and uprooted trees, downed powerlines, and minor structural damage. As the line progressed into southeast Louisiana between late evening and the early overnight hours, additional EF-0 and EF-1 tornadoes were confirmed across East Feliciana, Ascension, St. James, Tangipahoa, Washington, Lafourche, and St. Tammany Parishes, generally producing tree damage with localized impacts to homes and infrastructure, including roof damage, a flipped RV, and snapped power poles. Widespread straight-line winds accompanied the convective line, with gusts frequently reaching 50 to 60 mph, resulting in numerous reports of downed trees, broken limbs, minor structural damage, and isolated industrial impacts, including damage to a fiberglass cooling tower in Ascension Parish. The line continued east into coastal Mississippi during the early morning hours of February 15, producing additional brief tornadoes and wind damage, while marine observations across adjacent coastal waters recorded thunderstorm wind gusts generally between 35 and 45 knots with isolated higher values.

Began near Schriever (29.7760, -90.8300).
