Event narrative

Excessive heat resulted in the death of a 75 year old woman who was found unresponsive in her home. The outside ambient temperature at the time was near 100 degrees.

Wider weather episode

A high pressure ridge at the surface and aloft was anchored across the southern plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley the last week of July into the first week of August. This resulted in excessive heat across the region with many locations achieving temperatures in excess of 100 degrees during the afternoon hours. Afternoon temperatures on August 4th ranged from between 100 and 105 degrees across many locations in northwest and northern Louisiana.
