Winter Storm in Southern Berkshire, Massachusetts

Winter Storm February 22, 2026 – February 23, 2026 · Southern Berkshire, Massachusetts

What the National Weather Service wrote

Zone average snowfall of 8.2 inches.

The wider storm

A highly anticipated, highly impactful Nor'easter struck western Massachusetts on the evening of Sunday, February 22 through the afternoon of Monday, February 23, 2026. Tracking along the East Coast and rapidly intensifying as it approached the 40 latitude/70 longitude benchmark, this system quickly gained national attention not only for its projected widespread blizzard conditions across many high profile, highly populated areas, but for the complexity of its forecast.

Confidence increased sufficiently for forecasters at National Weather Service Albany to issue a Winter Storm Warning for Berkshire County ahead of the onset of the storm. Once snow began, it didn't take long for rates to become moderate to heavy, particularly across southern Berkshire County where anywhere from about 8 to 12 inches was reported. That said, northern Berkshire County also recorded significant snowfall totals ranging from about 4 to 10 inches. And while blizzard conditions were not a threat across this region, gusty winds did reduce visibility at times, making travel particularly difficult when combined with snow covered roadways. Many schools; local businesses; and roadways were closed as a result of this event.

Key Impacts: road closures, traffic accidents, school closures.
