What the National Weather Service wrote

A landslide occurred along PR-123 in the Saltillo neighborhood of Adjuntas during the morning of February 2, 2026. Emergency managers reported that rainfall between 1 and 3 inches triggered slope failure, resulting in debris covering the roadway and downed trees in the area. The landslide disrupted traffic on the roadway and required clearing operations.

The wider storm

A frontal boundary interacting with southerly flow produced a period of heavy rainfall across Puerto Rico from February 2 through February 4, 2026. Abundant moisture and an advective pattern supported widespread showers and periods of moderate to heavy rainfall across the region.

Significant rainfall amounts fell across portions of PR. These conditions resulted in urban and small-stream flooding, localized flash flooding, and minor landslides, particularly across the interior, southern, and western parts of Puerto Rico. Elevated streamflows were observed, with some rivers reaching action stage.

Began near Adjuntas (18.1583, -66.7177).
