The wider storm

A winter storm impacted much of southeast South Carolina with significant snow accumulations on January 31st along with very cold wind chill temperatures persisting into late morning February 1st. An area of low pressure shifted off the Southeast Coast while deepening, ushering in a very cold air mass across the region. The depth of cold air was sufficient to support snow as the primary precipitation type during afternoon and evening hours on January 31st. Snow accumulation ended by midnight on January 31st, but hazardous traveling conditions and very cold wind chill temperatures persisted through morning hours on February 1st.
