Cold/Wind Chill in Northwest Raleigh, West Virginia

Cold/Wind Chill February 1, 2026 – February 9, 2026 · Northwest Raleigh, West Virginia

The wider storm

Very cold temperatures triumphing over West Virginia that began at the end of January spilled into the start February. Overnight low temperatures observed by cooperative observers and members of the CoCoRaHS program were in the single digits for the first two days of the month, with a few somewhat warmer nights before plummeting back down to dangerous temperatures and wind chills. Temperatures sprung back up above freezing on February 9th as a strong push of warmer air arrived from the southwest. However, the colder air remained entrenched across the higher elevations of the mountains until the morning of February 10th once the warmer air filtered up over the ridgetops. Daytime temperatures for the middle of the month hovered in the mid 50s to mid 60s for much of the lowlands and the mid 30s to mid 40s across the spine of the Appalachians, bringing the cold spell to an end.
