Event narrative

Two small sailboats carrying a total of about seven people struggled to get back to shore. One capsized and then was assisted back to shore by a power boat.

Wider weather episode

A cold front moved through southern New England, producing showers and thunderstorms that became severe as they moved across southeastern Massachusetts. Large hail and damaging winds affected southeast Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and the waters off the Cape. A strong microburst produced significant damage in Acushnet.
