What the National Weather Service wrote
A severe thunderstorm, producing wind gusts estimated near 60 mph, knocked down multiple trees near residences on Snider Road west-southwest of Chambersburg. Reports also indicated a small building collapse in the vicinity.
The wider storm
Surface shortwave troughing allowed for ample lift in an environment with increasing instability as skies began to clear out during the early afternoon hours. Sufficient deep-layer shear across the region allowed for some thunderstorm development with some strong-to-severe thunderstorms across much of southern Pennsylvania during the late afternoon and evening hours. Thunderstorms across south-central Pennsylvania during the late afternoon hours gradually pulsed up to severe limits, causing an area of tree and building damage in Franklin County before a similar instance occurred in Adams County with a small barn collapse. Residual convection from western Pennsylvania began moving into portions of central Pennsylvania during the evening hours, causing isolated tree damage in Somerset County along with some damage in Bedford County.
Began near St Thomas (39.9005, -77.7797).
