Event narrative

A mariner sailing in Rhode Island sound experienced several thunderstorms, with this one the strongest. The winds knocked the boat over almost on the side with only a reefed main running downwind. Based on the waves they estimated the windspeeds to be between 35 and 40kts.

Wider weather episode

An upper level low tracked across southern Ontario producing showers and thunderstorms across southern New England. These storms produced a waterspout and very heavy rains resulting in flash flooding in southeastern Massachusetts.
