Dust Storm in Hardeman, Texas
Dust Storm March 15, 2026 · Hardeman, Texas
What the National Weather Service wrote
Multiple sources reported a multi-vehicle accident along U.S. Highway 287, a few miles southeast of Quanah, due to near-zero visibility in blowing dust. The event time is approximate.
The wider storm
The passage of an intense cold front, associated with a deepening midlatitude cyclone across the central CONUS, fostered a non-convective wind and wildfire episode across Oklahoma and western-north Texas during the morning into early evening of the 15th. Strong winds over very dry topsoil also led to sporadic reductions in visibility (and vehicle incidents) due to blowing dust. High Wind events included in this episode capture the first, last and highest magnitude wind gust in a particular zone/county.
