What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A very brief EF-0 tornado dropped from locally lower ceilings within a bookend vortex embedded in the QLCS near Cecil Harden Lake, 1.3 miles southeast of the Hollandsburg community. The bookend vortex crossed the lake, spawning the weak spin-up one-quarter mile south of the lake's southeastern shoreline; along its 900-foot track, the tornado then crossed residential roads East Mallard Drive and South Ebert Drive, before ending 400 feet south of the lake's shore.

Drone imagery showed clear convergence of downed trees in a grove between Meadows Lane and Mallard Drive; 30 to 40 additional trees were either uprooted or snapped along the path. Incident structural damage was limited to minor siding loss. The tornado's damage was mainly vegetation, with peak ind gusts of 85 mph for the event.

The wider storm

On April 2nd's early evening, an upper level short wave disturbance crossing the Middle Mississppi Valley, and associated 1000-mb surface low pressure tracking quickly from Iowa to Wiscomsin, placed central Indiana within its warm sector. The conditional set-up for severe weather included steep 0-3 km lapse rates, and corresponding DCAPE values of 500-800 J/kg extending along and just east of the Wabash Valley. A resultant quasi-linear convective system (QLCS) crossed western central Indiana, producing widely scattered damaging straight line winds. The system's overall high cloud base mitigated any tornado production except where a brief EF-0 was spawned in Parke County.

Began near Ferndale (39.7456, -87.0571).
