The wider storm
A cold front associated with an upper-level system moved into the local area from the northwest on March 7th. As the upper trough weakened, the front began to stall across the region. Ample moisture was already in place across southeast Louisiana, as evidenced by the afternoon KLIX sounding, which showed record precipitable water values. In addition, sufficient instability aloft supported persistent and robust thunderstorm development. The combination of these factors resulted in widespread flash flooding across the Baton Rouge metropolitan area.
Began near University (30.4400, -91.1700).
