What the National Weather Service wrote
Report of multiple trees, tree limbs and fences were downed by thunderstorm winds along St. Charles Avenue between Adams and Cherokee Streets.
The wider storm
A potent mid-level system drove strong cold front eastward across the region, including adjacent coastal waters. Ahead of the boundary, a robust low-level jet brough in warm, buoyant, and very moist air northward from the Gulf. Night timing of the line of storms that developed along the front did limit low level instability, however, elevated instability and frontal lift were more than enough to overcome the lack of surface heating. A few storms became severe and produced damaging wind gusts.
Began near New Orleans (29.9400, -90.1300).
