Strong Wind in Athens, Ohio
Strong Wind March 13, 2026 · Athens, Ohio
The wider storm
A windy day was observed on March 13th across southeast Ohio as a result of a passing low pressure system and an accompanying low level jet. While breezy winds were noted in the late morning, daytime mixing aided in the stronger winds from aloft to mix down to the surface, with local AWOS and Mesonet stations observing gusts on the upwards of 40 to 54 miles per hour across southeast Ohio. As these winds prevailed into the late afternoon and evening, numerous 911 call center reports noted downed trees and power lines across the area. The wind gradually declined after sunset that evening as the pressure gradient eased its hold over the area.
