The wider storm

An upper level disturbance moved across the Intermountain West during the day on May 18th. Forcing allowed stronger mid and upper level winds at the base of the disturbance to translate down to the surface resulting in gusty southwest to west winds across central and eastern New Mexico during the midday and afternoon hours. Some high wind gusts were measured at Las Vegas Municipal Airport and the Smokey Bear RAWS in Ruidoso. Winds tapered off areawide around sunset.
