The wider storm
A cold front moved across the Ohio Valley during the afternoon and evening hours on March 11th. Ahead of the front, modest amounts of instability were present, with surface dewpoint temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s, allowing for between 500 and 1000 J/kg of mixed-layer CAPE. With strong flow aloft, deep-layer shear was supportive of strong to severe storms, with shear values around 50-60 knots ahead of the front. Ultimately, ample cloudiness and stronger storms firing over the deep south limited the severe potential over much of Kentucky. However, a couple strong cells were able to make it into southeastern Kentucky, producing scattered instances of wind damage in the Lake Cumberland area.
Began near Albany Arpt (36.6900, -85.2000).
