Wind gusts of up to 41 knots (47 MPH) were measured by the ASOS at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) adjacent to the tidal Potomac River between 4:46 and 4:59 PM.

The wider storm

A strong cold front ignited a band of thunderstorms. The gust front rushed out ahead of the precipitation cores, but given the steep low-level lapse rates the gusts were able to maintain gale- to even storm-force as they crossed portions of the waters late in the afternoon.
