A wind gust of 35 knots (40 MPH) was measured by a personal weather station (KMDSTEVE76) adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay.

The wider storm

A strong cold front ignited a band of thunderstorms. The gust front rushed out ahead of the precipitation cores, but given the steep low-level lapse rates the gusts were able to maintain gale- to even storm-force as they crossed portions of the waters late in the afternoon.
