The wider storm
During the afternoon of March 7th, a line of showers and thunderstorms tracked into the Chautauqua County from Pennsylvania. As the storms tracked northeast, they became severe causing a few reports of damage in Chautauqua and then Cattaraugus counties. The storms were within the warm sector of a surface low located near Lake Huron, developing and strengthening along a pre-frontal trough that was crossing the region. Timing with afternoon heating and a strong low level jet that increased shear over the area coincided with the trough passage to cause a cluster of thunderstorms to become severe.
Began near North Clymer (42.0700, -79.6100).
