Lake-Effect Snow in Oswego, New York
Lake-Effect Snow March 17, 2026 – March 18, 2026 · Oswego, New York
The wider storm
A pair of cold fronts brought abnormally cold temperatures on March 17th and 18th. The cool temperatures over the warmer lake waters of both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario setup a lake response off of the lakes, but conditions over and lee of Lake Ontario were more favorable. Lake Effect snow developed on the morning of March 17th northeast of the lakes. By the mid morning, the lake band off of Lake Ontario dropped south, focusing on Oswego County for the remainder of the day and into the early morning of the 18th. Oswego County received the most snow as the lake band oscillated back and forth north to south.
Notable snowfall amounts include: 13.4 inches in Fulton, 10.0 inches in Altmar and 9.2 inches in Palermo.
