The wider storm
A surface low tracking eastward across the Midwest dragged a cold front south into Texas and east toward the Mid-South by the morning of March 11. Delayed arrival of the frontal boundary allowed diurnal instability to increase, interacting with 40 knots of bulk shear. As the front swept swiftly across the region, it triggered severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts across West Tennessee.
Began near Eastview (35.0800, -88.5500).
