A gust of 47 mph was recorded by the CWOP station DW6252 at the Madeline Island Ferry Dock.

The wider storm

Strong thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front during the afternoon of the 17th and moved east across western Lake Superior. The first storms produced hail to 1 inch in diameter along the North Shore with later storms producing wind gusts to 43 knots along the South Shore.
