Higher moisture along and east of the central mountain chain combined with a disturbance moving north into the state ahead of an upper low over California resulting in the development of scattered thunderstorms across the central mountain chain and nearby highlands during the afternoon and evening hours. A few storms became strong to severe resulting in nickel size hail in Santa Fe and half dollar to ping pong ball size hail in northern Union County east-northeast of Des Moines, NM.
