What the National Weather Service wrote
Rain bands moving across central Puerto Rico produced gusty winds that downed a tree and a utility pole onto PR-156 near Bayamoncito. The fallen debris blocked the roadway near kilometer 41.1, resulting in a temporary road closure. Law enforcement managed the incident, and the roadway was later reopened. Nearby observations indicated winds between 15 and 22 mph, with locally stronger gusts within the rain activity estimated near 40 mph.
The wider storm
A strong surface high pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean produced a tight pressure gradient across the northeastern Caribbean during early March 2026. This pattern resulted in breezy to windy conditions across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with several observing stations reporting wind gusts in the low 30s mph.
Began near Aguas Buenas (18.2368, -66.1659).
