What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

The tornado started in a field on northwest side of W Birch Run Rd and

Amman Rd. It first produced EF-0 damage with two rows of pine trees

uprooted, along with removing siding from an outbuilding. The tornado

then continued northeast toward Fergus Rd and Gasper Rd where more pine

trees were uprooted. EF-1 damage occurred on a half mile stretch of

Bishop Rd with the greatest concentration of EF-1 damage near Bishop Rd

and Alicia Rd. Peak winds estimated at 95 mph. This damage included both pine and hardwood trees snapped, two outbuildings and a few empty silos destroyed, along with three homes that sustained roof damage. One home did have the majority of the roof

blown off with the attached garage walls blown out. It continued east producing EF-0 damage to an outbuilding northeast of Alicia Rd and Horning Cut Rd where a door and wall were collapsed before lifting just off on an outbuilding. The tornado then lifted just off to the northeast in a field.
