High Wind April 22, 2026 – April 23, 2026 · South Laramie Range, Wyoming

72 mph
Measured gust (63 kt)

What the National Weather Service wrote

Multiple sensors recorded wind gusts between 60 and 70 MPH along Interstate 80. A WYDOT sensor at Lone Tree recorded a maximum wind gust of 73 MPH at 9:12 AM MDT on 4/23.

The wider storm

A strong trough moving into the Rockies created a long duration high wind event across most of southeast Wyoming and parts of western Nebraska. A strong sea level pressure gradient lead to strengthening winds aloft, with strong subsidence and mountain waves helping get these strong winds down to the surface.
