The path drawn at its surveyed width of 50 yards (0.03 mi) — zoom in and the swath grows to true scale. Other tornadoes recorded nearby that day are shown faint.

What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

Tornado started in a mainly open field to the west of Highway 83. A few branches were downed. Along the intermittent path, multiple trees were downed in different directions. A port-a-potty was displaced and pushed over. The tornado continued to the northeast into an inaccessible field.

The wider storm

A round of severe thunderstorms and flash flooding occurred as a strong cold front approached and tracked across southern WI. More specifically, supercell thunderstorms developed from northeast IA into southwest WI and far southern WI during the late afternoon and evening hours. Eventually these storms transitioned to a squall line which had a number of tornadoes associated with it, as it tracked through southeast Wisconsin. Flash flooding affected much of the same region especially in Janesville. Many large hail reports and a small number of downburst damaging wind reports were also received.

Began near Caldwell (42.8096, -88.2781).
