What the National Weather Service wrote

The Marine Exchange of Alaska observation at the Skagway Ore Dock measured the first high wind gust as winds shifted suddenly out of the south with a peak of 56.4kt (65mph) at 230pm on the 6th. The Skagway Airport ASOS measured a peak gust of 55kt (63mph) at 415pm and the Marine Exchange station at the harbor measured a peak gust of 51.8kt (60mph) at 714pm. High wind gusts continued into the night at the Airport until 1104pm and at the Ore Dock until 123am.

The wider storm

A developing 970 mb low over the north west Gulf of Alaska, sent an occluded front into the panhandle with the associated triple point tracking over the northern inner channels the afternoon and evening of March 6th. This caused winds through the inner channels to increase out of the south, reaching high wind criteria in Skagway until after the low center jumped into the Yukon and weakened. The following day, another low tracked in but was slightly further south and Skagway saw peak gusts just below warning criteria.
