The wider storm
Afternoon thunderstorms fueled by abundant low level moisture developed over the high terrain of New Mexico both June 12th and 13th. A large scale area of high pressure stretching back east over the southern CONUS resulted in light steering flow pushing storms eastward through the late day and evening hours. Due to persisting drought conditions, outflow gusts from storms along and west of the Rio Grande Valley resulted in some blowing dust, including an event at the Double Eagle Airport in western Albuquerque June 12th. Elsewhere, severe hail and wind gusts resulted from strong thunderstorms mainly over northeastern NM. There was a report of thunderstorm wind damage near Moriarty where a barn roof was blown off from an estimated 60 mph wind gust.
Began near Moriarty (34.9800, -106.1300).
