The wider storm
After a morning of showers and overcast clouds on May 13th, clearing skies during the afternoon resulted in strong thunderstorm development across West Virginia. Convection initially developed during the early afternoon west of the Ohio River, then crossed into north-central West Virginia during peak heating hours. This helped to maintain severe strength in some of the storms that crossed through Lewis and Calhoun Counties. Local power outages caused by downed trees and small to large hail were noted in locations north of Route 50, with one lone instance of sub-severe hail taking place in Raleigh County. The broken line of storms tracked east of the forecast area by the evening, bringing the risk for severe weather to an end for the day.
Began near Weston Bennett Arpt (39.0720, -80.4860).
