The wider storm

A fast moving low pressure system moved across eastern North Dakota and northwest MN, bringing moderate to locally heavy snow to northwest MN from the early morning hours April 2 through the early morning hours April 3. There was an 8 to 12 hour period of no snowfall after this wave exited the region before the much stronger low pressure system arrived during the afternoon and evening on April 3. As this first faster moving low pressure tightened over northwest MN, localized heavier snow banding resulted in some locations receiving of 6 to 8 inches across parts of northwest MN. The rest of the region mainly received light to moderate totals less than 6 inches with this first system.
