The wider storm

An unusually strong low pressure area swung through southern Virginia, dragging a cold front across Eastern NC by the evening hours. Ahead of it, bands of thunderstorms formed in the afternoon due to unstable conditions and wind shear in place. Scattered severe wind gusts embedded in some of the storms produced wind damage across the area. There were also several reports of hail up to nickel size.

Began near Plymouth (35.8500, -76.7400).
