What the National Weather Service wrote

Estimated dime to quarter size hail at their location. They also said the wind was very strong but did not have an estimate. They noted a lot of small tree branches blown down.

The wider storm

An approaching cold front and trough of low pressure combined with a very unstable airmass produced conditions conducive to robust thunderstorm development. An inland moving sea breeze aided in the development of a large cluster of thunderstorms stretching generally along the Highway 17 corridor from Onslow to Craven County, and then northeastward from there through Beaufort, western Hyde, and Tyrrell County. Several of these storms became severe, producing damaging wind gusts as high as around 70 mph. One storm produced up to quarter sized hail across central Tyrrell County.

Began near Woodley (35.8288, -76.2869).
