What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

An NWS storm survey found EF-1 tornado damage in the woods near York Hill Road in the town of Lincoln. Maximum estimated winds were 105 mph and the estimated track length was 0.31 miles. A stand of trees was uprooted and snapped.

The wider storm

Surface low pressure supported by vigorous mid-level shortwave moved across northern NY and northern New England during the afternoon and evening hours of June 18th.

Moderate instability combined with directional wind shear at multiple levels and a cold front helped develop a line of thunderstorms in NY that increased in intensity and coverage as it moved across VT with wind damage as well as weak, isolated tornadoes in VT.

Began near Lincoln (44.1014, -73.0156).
