The wider storm
The body of a middle-aged man was recovered from Lake Michigan at Openlands Lakeshore Preserve in Highland Park on the evening of the 17th. Officials believe the man had been deceased for around a day when his body was recovered. Wave heights were generally one to two feet for most of the day on the 16th. However, strong thunderstorms over the lake during the early afternoon made for a period of hazardous swimming conditions which could have contributed to the incident. Wave heights were one to two feet during the morning of the 17th, building to two to four feet in the afternoon prior to the onset of stronger storms later in the evening. It's also worth noting that dense fog was present on the lake from the evening of the 16th into the morning of the 17th.
