Drought in Coahoma, Mississippi

Drought April 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026 · Coahoma, Mississippi

What the National Weather Service wrote

D2/D3 conditions persisted across the county for the entire month of April and into early May.

The wider storm

April 2026 was a deeply challenging month for North Mississippi as a multi-season drought dramatically intensified. State climatologists noted that February 2026 had already broken records as the single driest February in Mississippi history, and April provided no relief. Instead of bringing typical spring showers to recharge the water table, April brought scorching temperatures and a severe spring recharge gap. By the end of the month, North Mississippi stood as one of the primary focal points of agricultural and hydrological distress in the Deep South. With nearly the entire state under moderate-to-exceptional drought conditions, North Mississippi's critical agricultural sectors faced immediate, severe operational strain.
