The wider storm

Moist upslope low level flow and hot temperatures allowed thunderstorms to develop on the higher terrain of eastern New Mexico on the afternoon of the 24th. This thunderstorm activity consolidated into several loosely organized segments as they moved into West Texas. The strongest storms remained anchored to a remnant surface boundary draped across the southern Texas Panhandle. These storms were able to produce widespread severe wind gusts across the extreme southern Texas Panhandle due to a very dry sub-cloud layer.

Began near Friona (34.6505, -102.7051).
