What the National Weather Service wrote

Extreme thunderstorm rainfall up to 5.00-6.00 inches in under 4 hours from east of Sullivan to south of Bloomfield, produced flash flooding in Linton, Lyons and Switz City. In Linton, vehicles stalled out, a child swept away by water was rescued, and railroad ties floated through town. Additionally, a culvert was washed out in Greene County on County Road 475 West, while Indiana Route 54 was flooded out in Sullivan County east of Sullivan.

The wider storm

On the 27th afternoon to early evening, a stationary west-east frontal boundary combined with a very moist column and forcing from a short wave trough over the Middle Mississippi Valley, to produce heavy to extreme rainfall rates over Sullivan and Greene Counties, and later Martin County. Resultant flash flooding was considerable during the afternoon east of Sullivan through the Linton area. Less impactful early evening flash flooding occurred in Martin County.

Began near White Rose (39.0800, -87.4009).
