Drought in Union County, New Mexico

Drought June 1, 2026 – June 30, 2026 · Union County, New Mexico

What the National Weather Service wrote

Extreme drought was persistent through a central swath of the zone with conditions improving to severe drought over the southern half of the zone.

The wider storm

The month of June saw overall above normal temperatures and a mixed bag of precipitation with some areas seeing above normal precipitation and others below normal precipitation. This is very reflective of the early summer thunderstorm activity that saw daily rounds of thunderstorms pass over some areas repeatedly, while missing other areas entirely. As a result, most of New Mexico saw no change in drought conditions while around a quarter to a third of the state saw either a 1 class degradation or improvement in drought conditions.
