Drought in Quay County, New Mexico
Drought June 1, 2026 – June 30, 2026 · Quay County, New Mexico
What the National Weather Service wrote
Severe drought conditions persisted across a majority of the zone with extreme drought becoming confined to areas along I-40 west of Tucumcari.
The wider storm
The month of June saw overall above normal temperatures and a mixed bag of precipitation with some areas seeing above normal precipitation and others below normal precipitation. This is very reflective of the early summer thunderstorm activity that saw daily rounds of thunderstorms pass over some areas repeatedly, while missing other areas entirely. As a result, most of New Mexico saw no change in drought conditions while around a quarter to a third of the state saw either a 1 class degradation or improvement in drought conditions.
