The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity caused heat index values to rise as high as 109 degrees during the afternoon on Monday and 106 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
The wider storm
A warm front lifted north through the region Monday morning (6/29) allowing daytime temperatures to soar into the upper 80s to lower 90s with dew points in the middle to upper 70s Monday (6/29) afternoon across central and portions of east-central Wisconsin. The warm front lifted north Monday night, which brought the hot and humid weather further north and east to include northeast Wisconsin and the lakeshore with similar temperatures and dew points. The combination of hot temperatures and high dew points allowed heat index values to soar to 105 to 110 degrees both days.
In addition to the hot temperatures, overnight lows only fell into the upper 70s to lower 80s Monday night (6/29) into early Tuesday morning (6/30), providing minimal relief from the hot temperatures. The heat wave broke when an area of showers and thunderstorms tracked through the area Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening (6/30).
