The wider storm
An environment ripe with instability and moisture coincided with the eastern edge of an elevated mixed layer (EML) allowed for scattered thunderstorm development during the afternoon and evening hours of May 18, 2026. Due to the lack of extremely favorable shear and lift, these thunderstorms struggled to develop further; however, inverted V soundings did allow for some damaging winds to mix down to the surface across Centre County and Clinton County causing isolated wind damage.
Began near Flemington (41.1281, -77.4679).
