Drought in Dyer, Tennessee
Drought May 1, 2026 – May 31, 2026 · Dyer, Tennessee
What the National Weather Service wrote
D3 Extreme Drought conditions improved to D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month. A small, localized area of D3 persisted into June in eastern portions of the county.
The wider storm
May 2026 in West Tennessee was a textbook example of weather whiplash. The month began with the region enduring the peak of a grueling, multi-season drought that originally took hold in late 2025. Because a persistent weather pattern had largely cut off moisture from the Gulf of Mexico for months, West Tennessee completely missed its traditional winter and early spring recharge window.
However, the narrative flipped abruptly during the second half of May. A significant atmospheric shift finally broke the dry dome, bringing heavy, consistent rainfall and improving conditions to West Tennessee.
