What the National Weather Service wrote
Strong thunderstorm winds knocked a tree down across a roadway and guard rail.
The wider storm
Warm southwesterly flow ahead of a cold front, combined with ample lift and moisture, helped trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. Steep low-level temperature lapse rates and instability allowed for thunderstorm development. Although modeled wind shear was not particularly strong, it was sufficient to organize some storms into clusters, resulting in gusty to locally damaging winds.
Began near Castle Creek (42.2489, -75.9583).
