What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

This tornado's track and timing are based on drone and ground survey from the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office, and is supported by the radar signature and near storm environment. Likely a QLCS tornado that developed in a field just east of US HWY 65, crossing 810th Ave and damaging several trees and a few buildings before it dissipated just south of 130th Street between Glenville and Gordonsville, MN. The maximum wind speed was estimated at 90 mph.

The wider storm

A line of storms developed along a cold front Sunday afternoon, stretching from South Dakota all the way down through central Kansas. As the storms progressed eastward through the evening, they moved into a favorable environment for tornado and severe wind development. Several tornadoes were observed across northeast Iowa, southeast South Dakota, and extreme southern Minnesota. There were two tornadoes in Freeborn County and one tornado in Martin County.

In addition to the tornadoes, there were reports of wind damage across southern MN. Minor structural damage and scattered tree damage suggest wind speeds around 60 to 75 mph were likely tied to the thunderstorms.

Began near Gordonsville (43.5369, -93.2508).
