The wider storm

By the evening on May 25, the environment over northeast Nebraska became favorable for thunderstorm development along a weak zone of surface convergence and near the nose of a developing low-level jet. Overall forcing for ascent remained weak, and deep-layer bulk shear was marginal, generally around 25 knots. However, instability was plentiful, with a corridor of 2,000 to 2,500 J/kg of MUCAPE extending into the region. Driven by this strong thermodynamic environment, a minimally organized cluster of thunderstorms initiated across north-central Nebraska during the late afternoon before drifting eastward into northeast Nebraska through the evening hours. Two public reports of hail measured at 1.00 inch in diameter were reported in Oakdale, NE at 8:19 PM CST and another 7 miles southwest of Clearwater, NE at 9:15 PM CST. A measured thunderstorm wind gust of 61 mph was reported near Neligh, NE at 8:29 PM CST.

Began near Oakdale (42.0700, -97.9700).
