What the National Weather Service wrote

A supercell thunderstorm moved across the region from just to the northwest of Canyon and dropped hail from there through locations west of Canyon. A swath of hail from just to the east of Umbarger to a few miles west of Canyon occurred. These hail sizes ranged from one inch to three inches in diameter. Baseball size hail fell at the intersection of Arnott and Gordon Cummings Road. Hail also broke several windshields of vehicles in this area.

The wider storm

The combined Panhandles were located between low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south. This allowed for late afternoon and evening storms to move from northwest to southeast across the region in a warm, moist and unstable environment. Supercell and multicell clusters of storms developed and affected the central and eastern portions of the Texas Panhandle during the later afternoon and evening hours. Large hail, damaging winds and flooding occurred across the region.

Began near Canyon (35.0300, -101.9500).
