Strong Wind June 5, 2026 · Central Lea County, New Mexico
What the National Weather Service wrote
LANDSPOUT. Location: 32.84,-103.61/32.85,-103.60. A member of the public shared a video of a landspout 15 miles west of Hobbs, looking northwest. The total time the landspout lasted is estimated, along with the peak wind gust associated with it and the distance it travelled. No damage was observed.
The wider storm
A few hours after convection from the morning largely decayed, additional showers and thunderstorms developed thanks to an upper-level trough moving over west Texas and southeast New Mexico (along with upslope flow and some remnant outflow boundaries). Heavy rain led to flash flooding in Dawson County, while a landspout was observed west of Hobbs.
